Game Recommendation: Soda Dungeon 2

Soda anyone? Well, with this game you can battle monsters AND get your soda fix! Soda Dungeon 2 is a unique game combines turn based RPG with the theme of soda and its so fun. Raid the dark lord’s castle and stop him from destroying the world.

soda dungeon 2
This isn’t your standard Flantasy RPG!

Gameplay

To stop the dark lord you must enter each floor and do battle with different monsters. Win each battle and you will collect money, ore, and equipment to aid you on your quest. You can spend your hard earned money in a couple of different ways. First you will need to hire warriors to raid the castle. To do this you will need to visit the local inn. This is where they gather. At first the inn is completely rundown, and it is your job to buy stools, tables, and beds for it. The more of these you buy the more they will be attracted to the inn.

But how does soda fit into all of this, you ask? Well, by buying different kinds of soda for the inn, different types of warriors will visit giving you a variety of options to choose from when it comes to recruiting them. For example, buying Hammerin’ Ale will attract carpenters, while Quarry Quench will attract miners, and RN Cola will attract nurses, just to name a few. You can also spend your money on construction of different buildings like the blacksmith or wizard’s hut.

The graphics are pretty tasty (and not just the fizzy drinks)!

Tips

When venturing into the dark lord’s castle you’ll encounter turn-based battles with groups of monsters. Defeat them and you’ll ascend to the next floor. Eventually you will encounter a group of monsters who are just too tough, so prepare to be defeated. But you know what? That’s okay.

This game doesn’t penalize you for dying. Nor does the game expect you to win the battles all at once. Plus when you do die you bank the money you collected along the way. Another thing is that every ten floors you will have to fight a boss. If you have unlocked the wizard’s hut you will be able to teleport one floor above the boss level (only if you have defeated it before); Use this to your advantage. Also, any equipment made, found, or bought will automatically be applied to the warriors you hire. You will not lose them if you die.

Final Thoughts

I am having a really good time playing Soda Dungeon 2. The music can get a little repetitive in the hub area, but it’s not that annoying. One thing that I thought was a little funny was that some warriors will burp when you recruit them (which shows how immature I really am). The graphics are 2D, but nicely detailed, even though you can still notice the pixels. Another thing that I thought was cool is that as you get further in the game you will be able to recruit more warriors at once to do battle. You will eventually have enough of them to surround your enemies and do more damage. Overall this is a great game. You can play it on Android, iOS, and Steam for free. Well, as always, its on to the next…

Game Recommendation-Fishing Paradiso

With all the chaotic action games and difficult puzzle games out there its nice to play a calm relaxing game for once. Thats why I love playing the game Fishing Paradiso. Its exactly what your looking for if you want a laid back chill game. This is a story driven game mixed with fishing gameplay and item collecting. Its basically described by the creators as a tropical fishing RPG.

Fishing Paradiso

The story is pretty straight foreword. You have died and are on your way to heaven when you are stopped by a giant celestial fish. He says that to truly be excepted into heaven you have to find him. You then awaken on a tropical island by a little bird that will serve as your sidekick. So the adventure begins. On your journey you meet many different characters that will help you reach your goal.

These characters will need your help with something before they can help you out. To help them out you will need to know how to fish. This is where the gameplay comes in. Each character will give you a reason to fish. Whether its to grant your wish, heal someone, or make dinner. The controls are really simple. Press one button to cast your line. Press the same button to reel it in. To catch fish you will need to cast your line towards shadows in the water. Some of these shadows will be a different color. Those shadows are the type of fish you will need to finish the current mission. Completing story missions with the characters you meet will add them to your phone. It is then that you can do side missions for them.

Fishing Paradiso

Fishing will automatically earn you money. You can then use that money to boost your fishing stats. Doing this will let you catch bigger fish and strengthen your line and increase your stamina. There is a point in the game where you get your own house. Completing missions will sometimes earn you items that you can use to decorate your house.

Fishing Paradiso

If your looking to play a game in a fully 3D world then your at the wrong place. This games graphics are fully pixelated and thats ok. This game doesnt need to be in 3D. In fact its better that this game is in pixels. The simplicity of the gameplay, story, and graphics is what makes this game so fun to play. What makes this game better then it already is would be the background music. To fully appreciate the background music you need to play this game with headphones. It will make your Fishing Paradiso experience that much better because of the relaxing tropical type of music thats playing and surrounding you.

Fishing Paradiso

I really enjoyed playing this game. If your looking for a fun, relaxing, casual game then you should definitely check this game out. Its free to play and is available in the Google Play Store. Also this game can be played offline. This means that you can fish wherever you are with out an internet signal. Well its on to the next…

Recommended Game – Pac Man 256

If you’re like me and have been playing video games for the better part of the past 25 years, mobile games are a hard sell. Which is why a game like Pac Man 256 is so good.  Released by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it is based around the 256 glitch in the original Pac Man arcade game; a glitch where, if you reach level 256, a bug corrupts the entire right half of the maze with seemingly random symbols and tiles, overwriting the values of edible dots, which makes it impossible to eat enough dots to beat the level.  The bug is caused by the calculation of the number of fruit to draw rolling over to zero. The code attempts to draw 256 fruit–236 more than it was designed for–resulting in the maze being corrupted.

And that is what the concept that Pac Man 256 is built around; the glitch is corrupting the maze behind you, and run endlessly away from it.  If the glitch catches you, you die, but you’re also dealing with all the normal gameplay elements of Pac Man; all the ghosts, all the fruits, all the power pellets.  However, you also have extra power ups to assist you along the way.

Graphics

Graphically, Pac Man 256 has a faux retro style; it looks like the old Pac Man arcade game, but is built around a 3D engine.  The characters are voxel based, giving it a very pixelated style of graphics, but there are also different themes that allow you to change the graphics; you can go with different themes such as Pac Mania, Pac Man classic and Pac Man CEDX.  On top of that, all the menus and text are large and easy to read.

Sound

Pac Man 256 is built around a faux retro sound design; it sounds like an updated version of the Pac Man arcade game’s sound. They sound like a high definition version of the song and sound effects of the original arcade game, which sound perfect on a mobile device speaker.  Nothing seems out of place in the Pac Man 256 sound design.

Gameplay

Pac Man 256 has you playing Pac Man in an endless runner style of game; you swipe left, swipe right, swipe up and down to move, collecting dots and power pellets, running from the glitch wall and avoiding the ghosts, or outright destroying them if you’ve got the right power-ups.

Ads and in game purchases

Pac Man 256 is very much ad light, though there are tons of microtransactions available, none of which are required to do well in the game; everything you can buy with real money can be bought with in game currency, which you earn from coins you find in the maze, which are created by the glitches as you run through the maze.  However, if you do decide to view ads, you can get those coins faster.

Final Analysis

Pac Man 256 is an enjoyable way to kill time when you’ve got nothing else to do. You run through the game, chasing the high score while dealing with the threat of the glitch wall chasing you.  And the best part is that it’s free on the Google Play store, and probably the Apple store too. Download it, and you won’t regret it.

Recommended Game – Slayin’

If you’re like me and have been playing video games for the better part of the past 25 years, mobile games are a hard sell. Which is why a game like Slayin’ is so good. Released by FDG Entertainment, Slayin’ is a game built around touchscreen controls. You have a button that moves left, moves right, and an action button that is determinant on the class you’re playing. It’s also built around a retro visual and audio aesthetic, which is something that’ll appeal to players like me who enjoy retro games.

Graphics

Graphically, Slayin’ looks like it came straight out of the 1990s; it looks like something you’d have seen on the Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis back in the day, but in a good way. It fits the aesthetic of the game and feels right for what you’re doing.  All the effects in the game are bright and colorful, and all the interface borders are a great representation of what they’re trying to show; the dragon one is my favorite, and it makes the dragon look appropriately terrifying.

Sound

The music is appropriately epic for a game where the end goal is to slay a dragon, and it’s appropriately sad when you die. And, like the graphics, it feels like it came off an old console, but in a good way; everything sounds like it came from an older console game, and the game is better for it.

Gameplay

Slayin’ also offers multiple characters to unlock, starting with the basic knight, the powerful mage, the roguish knave, the not so good archer, the amusing tamer, and the ninja, which I have yet to unlock due to how much that class costs in-game points. Each class brings something different to the gameplay; the knight brings in armor and bigger and faster weapons than the other classes, while the knave moves the fastest and can collect gold for upgrades fastest due to his high luck stat.

Ads and in game purchases

Free mobile game live or die depending on their ad policy, and I’m happy to say that Slayin’ does it right; an ad at the startup, and ad if you choose to revive during the gameplay, and maybe an ad when you go from the results screen to the startup menu.

And in no way are you required to buy anything with real money to do well here.  The currency for Slayin’ is gold, which buys upgrades during the gameplay to make your fight against the hordes of monsters easier, and fame, which you use to buy other classes, interfaces, background music and more.  And while you CAN use real money to buy fame, you’re not required to, as all buying fame will do is help you unlock things faster; you gain no advantage in gameplay from buying anything with real money.

Final Analysis

But the important thing to remember is that Slayin’ is fun. I’ve personally logged hundreds of hours trying to unlock all the characters, background music tracks and interface borders, and I still haven’t gotten to the dragon yet. Check Slayin’ out on the Google Play and Apple store. You won’t regret it!
